AVALON JETTY
"Avalon Borough Council approved a $200,000 contract with Mott MacDonald
Sept. 11, for design, planning and bid specifications for the
rehabilitation of the 8th Street jetty damaged by Winter Storm Jonas in
2016. The contract award begins a process that should result in
reconstruction of the jetty."

A LITTLE OFF THE TOP
"New Jersey, which has waged relentless court battles to build
protective sand dunes along its coast, may take the unusual step of
trimming some large dunes and using the sand to widen the beach in front
of them. The proposal would appear to fly in the face of strenuous and
costly efforts to ensure dunes are in place along most of the state's
127-mile coastline. That included court cases against dune opponents and
people seeking financial compensation for the loss of oceanfront
property and ocean views. But a special set of circumstances, including
robust dunes that are considerably larger than minimum standards, and a
federal policy placing a traditional sand pumping site off limits to
federally funded projects, has led U.S. and state authorities to
consider 'harvesting' sand from some dunes in Stone Harbor."

SMUGGLER’S COVE
"Stone Harbor Borough Council has been discussing the potential purchase
of Smuggler's Cove, an iconic spot boasting one of the borough's oldest
structures and housing a marine gas station, a bait shop and a history
of service to anglers whether novices or veterans. During council's
regular business meeting September 17th, Council President Joselyn Rich
made a motion that the borough not purchase Smuggler's Cove. It was
immediately seconded by Mantura Gallagher."

RECYCLING CHANGE
REMINDER
"Due to limited end markets and increased contamination
potential, bulky mixed rigid plastics and shredded paper have been
removed from the County's "Recommended" and "Designated" recyclables
list, respectively. Changes will take effect October 1, 2019."

"On Saturday, September 14, 2019 Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour attended the
Stone Harbor Property Association's fall membership meeting and
presented an update on Borough projects."

CENTRAL DISPATCH
"Stone Harbor Borough Council approved a $500,000 purchase of radios for
the police and fire departments in preparation for the move to central
dispatch. The shared services agreement with the county was also
approved. Stone Harbor became the most recent municipality to make the
move to countywide dispatch services. So far, police departments in
Lower Township and Wildwood Crest, along with emergency medical services
in Lower Township, Avalon and Stone Harbor have moved under the county
communications center, located at the Lower Township Public Safety
Building."

BEACH REPLENISHMENT
"Dredging and beachfill operations are set to begin in a portion of Cape
May County this fall, officials announced. The U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers has awarded a $7.5 million contract to Great Lakes Dredge &
Dock Company to complete periodic beach nourishment between Avalon and
Stone Harbor."

explore, learn, and enjoy! They will have guided viewing of migratory
birds from the Institute and on Seven Mile Island, and much more!
