		Avalon's Surfside Park Takes Shape 
		  
		"Avalon's new Surfside Park is nearing overall completion with finishing 
		touches on the park being completed in early June. The Park has been 
		constructed by Fred M. Schiavone Construction and supported by a $2 
		million grant from the Cape May County Open Space program. Project 
		management has been provided by Mott MacDonald Engineers and by the

		instruments with modern synths and controllers has allowed them to craft

		MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES 
   
		The Borough of Avalon will honor its past and present servicemen & 
		servicewomen during its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on 
		Monday, May 27.  
		Sponsored by American Legion Post 331 and the Borough of Avalon, the 
		parade kicks off at 9am from 32nd Street and Dune Drive and proceeds 
		north to Veterans Plaza, 21st Street and Dune Drive, where the ceremony 
		will begin at approximately 9:45 am. The parade will feature many civic 
		organizations, the Seven Mile Singers, the Patriot Brass Ensemble and 
		bagpiper Michael F. Bell. The parade marshal will be Avalon Yacht Club 
		Commodore Joseph Loeper. The ceremony will include comments from Post 
		331 Commander Tom McCullough, Mayor Martin Pagliughi, and the guest 
		speaker, former Army Sgt. Robert "Bruce" Land. Post 331 will conduct the 
		flag raising and gun salute, and approximately 30 Borough officials and 
		civic leaders will participate in a formal presentation of wreaths or 
		living memorials in honor of the men and women of the United States 
		Armed Forces who have given their lives for our country. 
		The Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Department will honor fallen heroes 
		during the annual Memorial Service at 11 am at the Stone Harbor 
		Firehouse on Monday, May 27.  
		During the ceremony, members place names on the plaque at the memorial 
		to honor firefighters who passed away during the year. Immediately 
		following the ceremony, the American Legion Post 331 will sponsor its 
		Memorial Day parade at noon featuring various community organizations. 
		The parade will start at 99th Street and Third Avenue, proceed north on 
		Third Avenue to 96th Street, then east to the Women's Civic Club. Post 
		331 will perform a rifle salute and "Taps" on the beach, followed by a 
		Veterans Ceremony and Open House at its headquarters located at 117th 
		Street and Second Avenue. The open house is open to the public and all 
		within the community are encouraged to attend. For more information,

		"In an ordinance regulating the use of drones within the municipality, 
		the borough had to retreat from an earlier attempt to ban recreational 
		use of drones. The ordinance was adopted 'to protect the public from the

		"The master plan reexamination is a process that must be completed on a 
		10-year cycle, according to state regulations. The master plan deals 
		with a number of required elements ranging from the borough's land-use 
		plan to its housing element. The plan also deals with a community's 
		short- and long-range goals, covering a diversity of topics from green 
		initiatives to flood mitigation, or from recycling to water reclamation. 
		A planning board schedule called a first public hearing June 10 and 
		another potential meeting June 24. The planning board could adopt the

		SAND BACK PASSING PROJECT: 
		   
		Avalon is in the final days of a major sand back passing project that 
		results in restored beaches in the northern end of the community that 
		were compromised during winter storm activity. The project will result 
		in approximately 55,000 cubic yards of sand being back passed from a 
		borrow area in the central part of the community to beach blocks between 
		9th through 15th streets that lost most of the beach to the toe of the 
		dune system.

		AVALON BULK TRASH: 
		   
		Bulk trash collection begins in Avalon on Monday, May 13th at 7:00am. 
		Bulk items may be placed curbside starting Friday, May 3rd. Construction 
		and remodeling materials are not collected at any time. Avalon offers a 
		second bulk trash collection starting on September 9th. If you have any 
		questions, please contact the Avalon Department of Public Works at (609)

		COUNTY 9-1-1 SYSTEM: 
		    
		The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management has become the first 
		in the region to implement a next-generation 9-1-1 emergency telephone 
		response service. According to a county release, the implementation of 
		the new RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse Program allows the Cape May County 
		Dispatch Center to pinpoint the location of a 9-1-1 cellular call to 
		within 150 feet of the caller, instead of to the nearest cellular phone
